Fund Setup

Fund Setup

To add a new fund go to Data Management > Fund Management > Fund Setup

This navigates you to the Fund Setup screen. On this screen you can edit Fund attributes which are configurable after initial setup and also create new funds.

  • Final Closing Updates are always editable

  • Shareholding is editable as a fund must first be created before shareholding can be stored against it. However, shareholding should not be changed for any fund with capital accounts history as this would retrospectively change the calculated cashflows per investor

  • The “initial settings” table are settings which should be known during fund creation/initialization and not edited afterwards. (However, we realize that it isn’t always possible to know all properties of a fund during the setup therefore there is a provision to be able to edit the initial settings properties individually via the “Change” Popup dialog. Thus editing is still possible but should be impossible to do accidentally for these properties).

Creating a fund

To create a new fund for the portfolio, click the Add Fund button. The dialog below will display on screen.

The “Add Fund” button remains disabled until all mandatory fields have been filled.

After clicking the Add Fund button the new fund is created and the form closes. You can then select the new fund in the filter of the Fund Setup screen and then edit Shareholding, Fund Closing properties, Region and Sector split assumptions and projection assumptions.

Investor based position

For investments held by multiple investors there are two ways to manage the investments

  • investor based Positions: the cash flows and values are maintained at investor level

  • Shared investments: the cash flow and values are maintained at investment level and distributed to the investors by a defined percentage.

The shareholding matrix maintains the shares of the different investors.

Entering projection assumptions

To enter the assumptions used for cashflow projections click on the green button “Fund Projection Assumptions.”

A more detailed description on the projection model can be found in the cash flow projection documentation

Entering Region and sector splits

Note: the input for Region and Sector splits is only used for funds without asset level data. Any fund which has asset level data will always use the underlying industry sector and country allocation of the fund’s portfolio companies to calculate the region and sector allocation of the fund.

To enter the assumptions used for Region and Sector reporting switch to the “Fund Data Input” click on the red button “Region & Sector Split.”

Asset Level Data Options

If the asset level data is available and maintained, the fund setup requires

  • Activate Flag for “asset level data”

  • decision on “asset level weighting”

Asset level weighting

The calculation of the values per Asset/Portfolio company can be based on options below. The calculation is used in the Region and Sector allocation and in the Split NAV calculations:

  • Invested capital: Invested Capital in PortCo/Total Invested Capital Fund Level

  • Unrealized Value: unrealized Value of PortCo/Total unrealized Value Fund Level
