When planning by multiple Business Segments, not all combinations of the Business Segment make business sense to plan. To reduce the number combinations available to the FPM Planner, combinations of Business Segments can be created using the Business Segment Selector. Each Selector referrers to a node the Business Segment. The FPM Planners selects the desired combination in the Select Segment filter. The Business Segment filters are updated with the nodes associated with the Business Segment Selector. Business Segments that are not used for the planning module are automatically defaulted to the default element.

The Business Segment Selector allow the FPM Administrator to build combinations of Business Segments for Revenue, Expense and Balance Sheet planning. The Business Segment are set up at Administration > Planning > BSEG Selector.

Create a Business Selector

In our simplified training model, the same filtering of the business segment could be achieved using Business Segment Security. This is not the case when more than one Business Segment is used for the planning module. In the following walk through we are going to demonstrate the Business Segment Selector by creating selectors for the department heads in the Expense Planning module.

Exercise

Create a Business Segment Selector for company 1000 and Total Cost Centers / Total Customers in the Revenue, Expense, and Balance Sheet planning modules. If the Business Segment is not used for the planning module the default element will be used for that Business Segment. Give the Business Segment Selector the description of “Total Company 1000”.

Deleting a Business Segment Selector

All or selected Business Segment Selectors can be deleted for a planning module.
