2.2. Planning Business Segments

The FIN BSEG x Plan dimension is derived from the Total FIN BSEG x rollup in the FIN BSEG x dimension. There two things to consider when using the FIN BSEG x Plan dimensions:
Usage: There are three core planning modules; Balance Sheet, Revenue and Expenses. The usage of the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension in each of these modules can be controlled. If the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension is used the level of planning detail for the module will be determined by the leaf elements of the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension. If the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension is not used, then all the data will go against the NA element for the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension. Each planning module can use none or all of the FIN BSEG x Plan dimensions.
Level of Planning Detail: The year-to-date actual may be collected in more detail than is required for planning. Apliqo FPM allow the Module Administrator to map the FIN BSEG x elements to the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension at higher levels of the rollup under the Total FIN BSEG x consolidation. For this reason, the Total FIN BSEG x consolidation should include the consolidations that the business wants to plan. Alternative hierarchies and rollups can be maintained for other reporting analysis.
In this training we are going plan expenses using the FIN BSEG 1 Plan dimension. The planned Cost Centers will be by Departments which will be a collection of cost centers. Revenues will be planned using the FIN BSEG 2 Plan dimension. Sales will be planned at total customers for the region. The Balance Sheet will be planned by company. No FIN BSEG x Plan dimensions will be used for Balance Sheet Planning.
Usage
The usage FIN BSEG x Plan in the planning modules is set in the Settings popup.
The dimension caption of the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension can be set. The caption for the Total and NA elements can be set for the planning business segment. Enter the Manual Value and click on the Update Captions to apply the changes.
The usage of the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension in the planning modules can be set. For the Revenue, Expense and Balance Sheet planning modules, select Yes if the planning business segments is used to plan that module. If the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension is not for the planning module, the data from the FIN General Ledger cube will be accumulated in the NA FIN BSEG x Plan element in the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension.
Plan Mapping
The mapping of the FIN BSEG x elements will determine the leaf elements of the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension. When data is copied from the FIN General Ledger cube to the planning cubes the Plan Map ID is the leaf element that the data is copy to in the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension. The rollup of the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension is inherited from the rollup under Total FIN BSEG x in the FIN BSEG x dimension.
The mapping is based on levels. Level 0 is the leaf level of the FIN BSEG x dimension. Level 1 is the first consolidation of the leaf elements. Level 2 and above are the consolidation levels up the Total FIN BSEG x element. NA is a special mapping where the data against the element in the FIN BSEG x dimension is copied to the NA element in the FIN BSEG x Plan dimension.
To begin, set a level under Map Level Entry for the Total FIN BSEG x element. This level is inherited to all elements under the Total FIN BSEG x element. The initial mapping can be overridden in the Map Level Override column.
Once the planning mapping has been completed, click on the Build Dimension button to update the planning business segment dimension. The final dimension rollup can be viewed in the FIN BSEG x Plan tab of the Business Segment Maintenance page.
